Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) aims to establish Japan as a nation built on the creativity of science and technology, as a core organization for implementing Japan's science and technology policy in line with the objectives of the Science and Technology Basic Plan.

 

Mission

JST's mission is to promote science and technology in Japan by conducting a broad range of activities, including the following:

 

Promotion of consistent research and development from basic research to commercialization with particular emphasis on the creation of new technological seeds

 

Upgrading the infrastructure for the promotion of science and technology, including dissemination of scientific and technological information

 

Activities

Specific JST programs are conducted in accordance with the mid-term plan compiled by JST and approved by the Government, in order to achieve the mid-term objectives set by the Government. During the first mid-term plan (October 2003 - March 2007), the following five activities are being carried out:

 

Creating advanced technology

 

Promoting business using advanced technology

 

Promoting dissemination of scientific and technological information

 

Researcher exchange and research support

 

Promoting understanding of science and technology by the public

 

When the mid-term plan has been completed, a thorough evaluation will be conducted, and the results of the evaluation will be fully reflected in the next mid-term plan.
